Muker is located in Upper Swaledale which is the most northern of the Yorkshire Dales.  It is about 45 minutes drive from both the A1(M) and the M6 and is approximately 1.5 hours drive from Leeds to the south and Newcastle to the north.

The nearest train station is Garsdale on the historic and beautiful Settle-Carlisle railway.  Alternative routes are available from Northallerton and Darlington which are on the main East Coast line.

It is served by a community bus service, the Little White Bus, which operates bus services from Richmond, its nearby market town.  There is also a Little White Bus connecting service between Hardraw and Garsdale station.
